What is ISO 9001:2000 ?
The ISO 9001:2000 standard is an internationally recognized quality management system standard developed in 1987 by the International Standardization for Organization, whose headquarter is in Geneva; it was revised in 1994 and 2000.
ISO 9000 standards consist of four basic standards. These are;
ISO 9000:2000 QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS- BASIC CONCEPTS, TERMS
ISO 9001:2000 QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS -CONDITIONS
ISO 9004:2000 INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
ISO 19011:2000 INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR THE QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENT INVESTIGATION
Conditions necessary for securing the Quality Management System are explained in ISO 9001:2000. Other three standards have complementary tasks. That is; ISO 9000:2000 explains basic concepts, ISO 9004:2000 makes improvement in institutions and guides those institutions which want to go beyond 9001:2000. ISO 19011:2000, on the other hand, is a guide for controls made for measuring the performances of Quality and Environment Management Systems.
ISO 9001:2000 Standard can be applied to all sectors from production to services. The purpose is to standardize management style and production or service quality and to make it available in all departments. The documentation system is a first step towards the institutionalization of the company.
